Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd have expanded the range of Ssangyong Rexton SUV in India with the addition of a new variant - the RX6 that will retail in the country at Rs 19.96 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.) The Ssangyong Rexton RX6 variant will be positioned between the Rexton RX5 and RX7, thus bridging the gap between the two.

Mahindra states that the decision to roll out the new Rexton RX6 variant was based on various customer feedbacks that they received and the strong demand for a high-end and luxurious SUV, but fitted with a manual transmission. Therefore, the new RX6 variant has dropped the automatic tranny and thus, saving a little more than Rs 1 lakh for its decision.

What the new Rexton RX6 gets however, is a 2.7-litre engine with 162PS of max power and 340Nm of peak torque that includes, an intelligent 4X4 torque on demand system with low ratio switch. In terms of comfort and safety features, the RX6 gets a total of 14 new features such as an electric sunroof, eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, automatic headlamps, speed sensitive power steering, rain-sensing wipers, electronic stability programme, active roll-over protection, etc. The new Rexton RX6 is being offered in a total of four colour options: Satin White, Volcano Black, Moondust Silver and Opulent Purple.

Commenting on the launch of the Ssangyong Rexton RX6, Mr Arun Malhotra, chief of sales and customer care officer, automotive division said, “We see Rexton RX6 as a product that is at the top of our utility vehicle portfolio. More than volumes, it re-enforces our effort of launching UVs at every point - right from the entry-level to the premium luxury level.

In the Indian market, the Ssangyong Rexton rivals the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Honda CR-V.
