Mahindra-owned SsangYong Motor introduced its new crossover Tivoli in January this year in South Korea. Being an all-new product, the SsangYong Tivoli was only presented in petrol fuel trim at the time of its launch in Korea. Later, in April, the Tivoli B-segment crossover went on sale in the UK, again in petrol guise only. But now, SsangYong Motor has introduced a new diesel engine with the Tivoli crossover in UK. Being manufactured in South Korea by SsangYong Motor, which is 73 per cent owned by the Indian engineering conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra, the Tivoli is expected to make its way in India by early 2016.
Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli would now come loaded with an all-new 1.6L e-XDi160 diesel powerplant. Being an Euro 6 compliant engine, it would develop a maximum power of 113bhp at 3400-4000rpm and peak torque of 300Nm at 1500-2500rpm. Being equipped with the fifth generation E-VGT turbocharger, which maximises performance especially in the mid-low speed range, the engine is on offer with two transmissions: a 6-speed manual and Aisin 6-speed automatic. As for mileage, the newly-developed 1.6L e-XDi160 diesel mill delivers 23.26kmpl and 18.2kmpl with manual and automatic variants, respectively. In fact, the CO² emission level is also way too less at 113g/km as compared to petrol engine's 149g/km.
“Tivoli is the biggest thing to happen to SsangYong. We have been delighted with the reaction to the car from the media and all importantly from owners. Tivoli is being praised for its style, safety and equipment, interior space and finish, and with the introduction of diesel we can now offer greater power, increased economy and a 1.5 tonne towing capability, while also underlining the SsangYong proposition of value for money, backed by a warranty no one else can match", says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK. Just so you know, SsangYong Tivoli's 1.6L e-XGi160 petrol engine belts out a maximum power of 126bhp at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 160Nm at 4600rpm. SsangYong Tivoli diesel pricing starts at £14,200 (14.50 Lakhs) and goes as high as £18,250 (Rs. 18.60 Lakhs).
