Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli has made its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Tivoli compact SUV had its world premiere in Korea in January 2015. With the Mahindra-owned SsangYong showcasing the Tivoli in India, it is expected that the compact SUV could be launched in the country at some stage. Just so you know, Tivoli is the company's first new model since its acquisition by Mahindra.
Present at the occasion, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said, "Mahindra is constantly striving to push the boundaries of technology and innovation while developing new mobility solutions for a rapidly evolving world. The Auto Expo is the perfect opportunity to showcase our new range of automotive products. SsangYong's new Tivoli compact SUV, which is a big success in its home market of Korea is the first brand new product from SsangYong post Mahindra's acquisition." The company has invested USD 300 million (including engine development cost) in the development of Tivoli. It took around 42 months for SsangYong to create the Tivoli crossover from scratch.
During its launch in the Korean market, the company offered it in petrol fuel trim only. It was only in June last year, when SsangYong rolled out the diesel variants. The diesel variants are powered by an all-new 1.6L e-XDi160 diesel engine which churns out a maximum power of 113bhp at 3400-4000rpm and peak torque of 300Nm at 1500-2500rpm. It is available with both the 6-speed manual gearbox as well the Aisin 6-speed automatic transmission. The compact SUV has a fuel economy of 23.2kmpl and 18.2kmpl with the manual and automatic variants, respectively. The petrol variants derive their power from a 1.6L e-XGi160 engine, which generates a maximum power of 126bhp at 6,000rpm and peak torque of 160Nm at 4600rpm. In fact, the company has also launched the AWD (4X4) variant of the Tivoli in the UK.
