Mahindra SsangYong Tivoli has been spied as test mule for the very first time in India. The heavily camouflaged test mule was spotted in Chennai by the folks at Motor Vikatan. The Tivoli crossover had its first public appearance in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. Recently, the Mahindra-owned Korean automaker launched the crossover in Nepal at NPR 5,375,000 (Around Rs. 33.66 Lakhs) and it well could be on its way to India anytime soon.
SsangYong Motors currently sells the Rexton SUV in India and Tivoli could be the second company vehicle to be sold in the country. Though, Mahindra officials have neither confirmed nor denied the crossover's launch but only stated that company is evaluating about launching the Tivoli in India. If launched, the India-spec could be locally manufactured at Mahindra's production facilities to cut down the price and make it competitive. It is expected to be introduced in both the petrol and diesel fuel trims with a plethora of premium features, identical to the UK-spec model.
The petrol variants would be powered by the 1.6L e-XGi160 engine with maximum power of 124bhp and peak torque of 160Nm. On the other hand, a 1.6L e-XDi160 turbo engine would do duties to the diesel variants with top power of 113bhp and peak torque of 300Nm. They would be on offer with both 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic gearbox. Internationally, the Tivoli is also available with a 4X4 drive system, but the India-spec model might not get it. The Tivoli would be taking on the likes of Skoda Yeti and Tata Hexa upon its launch in India, while priced in a range of Rs. 15-17 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
