Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the homegrown automajor, is all set to launch three fresh SUVs in the country. Firstly, it will be the Bolero facelift (U301), then an all-new compact SUV (S101), and both these products would be followed by refreshed Xylo and Quanto. However, what surprised us completely, was the facelift version of its 4X4 off-roader Thar as a test mule on the roads of Nashik with partial camouflage. The Thar facelift has been spied for the very first time by our friends at Motor Beam.
Supposedly, the spied test mule of the Thar facelift was carrying the "On Test" sign on the dashboard. Going by the partial disguise at the bonnet and side panels, it seems that there could be a bit of tweaking and redesigning at these places. As visible in the images, the dash of the captured vehicle is also covered with camouflage, which suggests that it would also be updated. Mahindra had been quite tight-lipped regarding these developments and hence nothing much can be predicted about the changes, but it is certain that the company is working relentlessly to improve the comfort level and mechanic dynamics of the Thar off-roader.
Currently, Mahindra Thar 4X4 off-roader is being offered with two engine options. It comes loaded with a 2,498 cc, 4-pot, CRDe diesel motor which churns out a top power of 104 bhp and peak torque of 247Nm with four-wheel-drive system. There is an another variant of the Thar, which in-houses the 2,523 cc, 4-cylinder, DI diesel mill and it is good enough for a maximum power of 63 bhp and highest torque of 187Nm. It is available with two/four wheel drive system. Mahindra might include the 1.5L, 3-cylinder motor in the Thar line-up, apart from using the aforesaid powerplants. Since, Thar measures lesser than 4 meters in length and hence, the inclusion of Quanto's 1.5L motor could benefit it from lower excise duty rate.
