Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the Thar Signature Edition in a few weeks from now in the country. However, prior to the official launch, the images and details of the Signature limited edition have been leaked online. Being limited to just 700 units, it will be introduced in a couple of exclusive paint schemes: Napoli Black and Aqua Marine. The Aqua Marine color is similar to the one offered with the Marazzo. Mahindra Thar Signature Edition would mark the end of production for the current-gen model of the SUV.
The Signature limited edition will ride on 5-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels which were available with the previous-generation Scorpio SUV. It will also get styling updates in form of black decals on the bonnet lid, silver finish on the front bumper and a special ‘Signature Edition’ badge on the fenders. The badge will also have the signature of the company boss Anand Mahindra. The cabin would boast of new leatherette covers for the seats.
Mahindra Thar Signature Edition will feature Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) as standard like the regular Thar models rolled off the assembly line after April 1, 2019. The primary reason to pull the plug on the Thar SUV is the new crash safety norms kicking in from October 1, 2019. Mechanically, the Signature Edition will be powered by the 2.5L CRDe diesel engine while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This tried and trusted motor becomes the first choice to power the Signature Edition due to the discontinuation of base DI variant.
Mahindra has started the work on the next-gen Thar SUV and it could have its public premiere at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. It could have a a 140bhp or 120bhp diesel engine under the hood and a petrol variant can be expected too as Mahindra is trying hard to widen the SUV's portfolio. The new Thar is expected to be premium and advanced while getting more refined NVH levels, resulting in a silent cabin. It locks horns with the all-new Force Gurkha which will also debut at the same biennial event.
