Mahindra unveiled Genze electric scooter in the US

Snapshot: Mahindra unveiled its first all-electric two wheeler, the Genze, in the US market

After foraying in electric cars market with the E2o, Mahindra has set a new benchmark with introduction of its first electric scooter, the GenZe, in the US market. The unveiling took place at the company's 'Mahindra North American Technical Center' (MNATC) in the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan. The new all-electric scooter is developed and engineered completely in Palo Alto, California while production has taken place at new Michigan facility.

The Genze is an eco-labelled scooter that runs on electric power only and can run upto 48 kilometers with a full battery top-up. Top speed is 48 kmph and thanks to its lightweight credentials, the riders will not require license to ride the Genze in the US. The new scooter's console does feature a 7-inch LCD display that informs the rider about remaining power, speed and few other details. Mahindra is targeting students and other young buyers with this new scooter who are willing to cut their daily running costs.

The scooter will be assembled at the company's facility in Michigan whose total production capacity is 9,000 units which can be expanded to 20,000 units, if required. The development of MNATC will aid Mahindra to make its foothold strong in the US market. Along with production and development assistance, the new technical center will also help the company to understand major markets needs to become a global automaker in the next 10 years.
