Today is the World Environment Day and it holds much importance in today's scenario. With every manufacturer entering the EV/ Hybrid segment, it is a perfect day to launch an Electric or hybrid car. And the Mahindra is making the right move by launching the Verito EV today at a public campaign rally to promote electric and hybrid vehicles on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The rally will be flagged off by Anant Geete, Minister of Heavy Industries, from India Gate lawns and will end at the T3 terminal of the Indira Gandhi International airport on the outskirts of Delhi. Only five units of the EV have been manufactured for now and Mahindra will supply all these units to the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
The Verito EV made its first appearance during the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, followed by 2014 Auto Expo again. The Verito electric comes fitted with a 29KW power train that emits 39bhp power. The electric power is provided by the advanced lithium ion batteries, that makes the car run for 100km in a full charge (seven-hours of full charge) and a top speed of 85 kmph.
Spotted a couple of time testing, the Verito EV looks similar to the standard Verito; albeit with no exhaust pipe. The commercial launch of the car is expected in 2016 and the car will be priced somewhere around Rs 8-9 Lakhs. The car is expected to benefit from the FAME-India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles) scheme.
