Utility car maker M&M’s only hatchback Verito Vibe’s production has been stopped due to poor sales figure. The Verito Vibe was the hatchback version of decently popular Mahindra Verito which was earlier named as the Mahindra Renault Logan. Production of the car has been suspended at the beginning of the financial year itself. The Verito Vibe was struggling in the market for quite some time to achieve a decent sales figures, but it kept tumbling down. Last year M&M were able to sold only 619 units of Verito Vibe and only 32 units have been sold in the first five months of this fiscal year.
According to the company it is not discontinuing the model or has any plan to do so. The production has simply been stopped until the old stocks get cleared out.
The Verito Vibe was a India specific model which was launched at 2013, based on the popular Renault Logan platform. It was launched with the Renault’s famous K9K diesel mill which can churn out 65 bhp of power and 160 Nm of torque. The engine is further connected with a notchy 5-speed gearbox. With the underpowered engine the pricing also seems quite high. The basic model costs 6.39 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Interestingly, the hatchback's other sibling which is the sedan version has nice demand till now, especially in the commercial segment. Whereas the high pricing, poor design, underpowered engine and above all far better competitors like Swift, Grand i10 etc never helped the Vibe to sell in good numbers.
