Mahindra & Mahindra is working aggressively on the revamp of its SUV line-up. The refreshed Scorpio was launched last year and new Bolero along with an all-new compact SUV (S101) is coming this year. However, what is most astounding is that Mahindra is also contemplating a facelift version of its flagship SUV - XUV 500. Recently, our friends at Motor Vikatan captured the first pictures of XUV 500 facelift as test mule on the roads of Chennai, albeit partially camouflaged.
Going by the spy-shot, it seems as if the new model of Mahindra's flagship vehicle would bear several cosmetic changes both outside and inside. On outside, it is expected to flaunt new grille, bumper and hood at the front fascia. Talking about the side profile, it is expected to be unchanged, except for the new design of alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the instrument cluster and dashboard would also be tweaked and new additions would be there. The company unveiled the XUV 500 Hybrid at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, though in concept car form. But, Mahindra officials have cleared that displayed concepts would definitely be launched as production versions. Speculations are also suggesting that the XUV 500 facelift, apart from being a hybrid, might also come with automatic transmission and gasoline powertrain.
Mahindra XUV 500 has been a decent product so far if sales department is concerned. Around 2500 units of this SUV are sold each month, which is quite an achievement for the company, since it is not a budget-friendly SUV. It in-houses a 2.2L, 4-cylinder, diesel mill which is good enough for 140 bhp of maximum power and 330Nm of top torque. It is linked to a 6-speed manual transmission and is on offer in both 2WD and 4WD grades. It faces stiff competition from the likes of Tata Safari Storme, Nissan Terrano and Skoda Yeti. The Mahindra XUV 500 facelift version is expected to launch this year only and would come in a price range of Rs. 11-16 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
