The Mahindra Aero SUV-coupe concept was the major attraction of the 2016 Auto Expo, which grabbed a lot of attention due to its aerodynamic design. It was later also showcased at the Automobile Barcelona 2017, where too, it garnered a lot of positive response. According to the latest reports, the Mahindra XUV Aero concept has been confirmed to enter production, and the company has started working towards developing a production model. If everything goes in accordance with the plan, we might see the production-ready Mahindra XUV Aero at the 2018 Auto Expo.
Designed at the company-owned Pininfarina design studio, the XUV Aero is based on the standard XUV 500. However, the sloping roofline gives it a coupe-like design. Once in the market, the vehicle could well serve as affordable alternatives to the premium Mercedes and BMW coupe SUVs.
The concept model also showcased hinged doors (a.k.a suicide doors). However, it’s very unlikely that Mahindra will carry the hinged doors to the production model.
The Mahindra XUV Coupe will enter into the production simultaneously with the Mahindra XUV 500 at company's Chakan plant facility in Pune. It is expected to get an mHawk 2.2-litre diesel engine, same as the standard XUV 500. The engine is capable of producing a maximum power of 212 hp. An electric powertrain is also under evaluation for the Mahindra XUV Aero.
Mahindra U321 MPV is also set for launch in this fiscal year, which will be followed by the Mahindra A201 SUV in the second half of the fiscal year 2019. Consequently, we might get a concrete information regarding the launch details of the Mahindra XUV Aero.
