The hugely popular Mahindra XUV5OO SUV has breached yet another milestone by clocking sales of over one lakh units in the Indian market within just three years of its launch. This feat not only makes the XUV500 the fastest selling SUV in India that retails for above Rs 10 lakh, but also the first SUV in the country to enter the one lakh sales club.
Originally launched in 2011, the Mahindra XUV5OO was developed in-house by the companies manufacturer’s design department, Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. It was the first model coming out of the Mumbai-based manufacturer to be built on a monocoque frame, while the styling of the vehicle was inspired on the lines of ‘Cheetah’ design.
Talking of accolades, the Mahindra XUV5OO has a number of those to its name. The SUV has bagged a number podium finishes in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC), Desert Storm and the Dakshin Dare rally. It also topped a Customer Satisfaction study conducted by the TNS Automotive India in the SUV segment in 2012.
Commenting on the sales milestone, Pravin Shah, chief executive of automotive design and international operations (AFS) said, “This is a proud moment for us, as our first global SUV, the XUV500 has reached a significant milestone of one lakh sales in just 35 months of its launch. We would like to thank our customers for their support that has enabled the brand to grow from strength to strength.”
