Mahindra and Mahindra has been following an aggressive strategy to increase its market share in the Indian market. The company has been testing the 2014 Scorpio for sometime now whilst the test mule of an all-new sub-four meter utility (codenamed as S101) has also been spotted by keen punters. Now this very SUV has been spotted testing extensively.
Although the new SUV is completely camouflaged without leaving any body part or creases unhidden, its raised body stance and multi-pillar front grille reveals the new SUV is from Mahindra's family. The new model would be under four metres in length to come under the Government’s sub-four metre excise structure, but the spare wheel would be mounted on the tailgate to give it a butch look, somewhat similar to the Ford EcoSport or the company’s own Quanto.
Being a modern design, it might as well be a monocoque though the redeeming factor is a rear wheel drive layout, which can be made out by a rear differential. Styling is expected to be similar to the XUV. A new generation of engines is expected to power the new vehicle. More new models from the Mahindra stable this year will be in the form of a refreshed Scorpio.
While it is not known whether the new model will be completely new or will replace the Quanto, what is known is the fact that Mahindra is pushing its SUVs very seriously in the market and will have them ready in all shapes and sizes to suit every budget.
