Marquez heads home for summer break with the perfect score

Snapshot: After getting the maximum points allowed this season, Marc Marquez heads home for some rest as the MotoGP season finishes its first half

It didn't come as a surprise to most of the GP fans as Marquez shattered Casey Stoner's record of the fastest lap in the qualifying. By winning the 9th race of the season, Marquez also becamse the only rider after Giacomo Agostini to win the first 9 races of a season. In 1970, Agostini won 0-ening 10 races of the season, and if Marquez continues his perfect record, he might break Ago's record at Brno in Czech Republic scheduled to take place on August 17, 2014.

Just a few minutes before the race, rain forced many of the riders to switch from slick to wet to slick tyres after the final warm up lap. It also meant that 14 of the riders started from the pit. Soon after the race began, Marquez slipped to 10th while Pedrosa slipped to 13th spot. However after 6th lap, Marquez was back at the front where he stayed till the end of race.

"The surface dried out very quickly. I saw on the grid that Bradl had gone with the slick tyre option and I really had my doubts, because the area around the back of the track was still wet," said Marquez.

"I finally decided to see what Dani and Valentino (Rossi) were going to do, as they are my main rivals in the Championship and if you get it wrong in these races, you can lose a lot of points. That's why I decided to copy their strategy."

This win also meant that Marc Marquez has won every race he has competed in since 2010 here at Sachsenring. Pedrosa finished roughly 1.5 seconds after Marc and Lorenzo was good nine seconds behind Pedrosa at third place. Rossi finished nine seconds behind Lorenzo and finished fourth. After nine races and seven podiums this season, Pedrosa is back to the second spot in the standings with 148 points, seven points ahead of Rossi.
