It was a tough one for the reigning champion. Marc Marquez had not only to break the jinx of not winning ever at Jerez, he also had to battle his way out with riders like Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa who all have a special affiliation with this track in Spain. Rossi being the only non Spaniard in the lot has won maximum times here. But Marquez, who had the pole and lost the top spot to Rossi in the opening lap, came out strong in the end to maintain a record of 100% this season.

It was Marquez's 100th GP and he was in no mood to take it easy. He has an unbelievable 4 second lead by lap 12, but an aggressive Valentino narrowed the margin to 1.43 seconds when the race ended.  On the 4.42 km long track where he set a track record in qualifying, Marquez became the first rider after legendary Mick Doohan to win 4 opening premier class races of a season. Mick Doohan did it in 1992 and this record had stayed untouched since then. Marquez's team mate Dani Pedrosa, who was taken by Rossi on the final corner, finished 3rd, with a comfortable lead over Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo who finished 4th.

"I was expecting more of a bunched-up race but I saw that I started with a good rhythm and I was feeling in good shape. Without pushing too hard I saw that I was pulling away and decided to keep pushing it because I didn't know what was going to happen in the final stages. I am very pleased to win here in front of all the fans," Marquez said to reporters.

After the fourth race of the season, Marquez leads the charts with 100 points followed by Pedrosa with 72 points. Rossi is a close third in the standings with 61 points.
