Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has launched an 'Onam' special edition of the Alto 800 in state of Kerala. It was launched to mark the inception of Malayalam month 'Chingam' and even the company delivered over 1,000 units of Alto. For those wondering, Maruti Alto 800 'Onam' Edition comes with 15 additional features at an extra cost of just Rs. 17,350 over the price (Ex. Showroom) of selected variant. There are no mechanical changes in the Onam Edition hatch as it is just a festive season special edition.
Ram Suresh Akella, Commercial Business Head, Southern Region Maruti Suzuki, said, "Kerala is an important market for Maruti Suzuki and Alto 800 is the highest selling model for us in the region." The 15 new features on Maruti Alto 800 'Onam' Edition includes music system with speakers, reverse parking sensors, designer seat covers, embroidered cushions, Onam graphics and decal. "We are happy to present 15 new features as part of the Onam accessories to the customers at a special price. We are confident that the Onam Limited Edition Alto 800 will delight customers," he added. The Alto 800 'Onam' Edition continues to carry the 0.8L, 3-cylinder petrol motor, which does duties to the regular model as well.
A couple of weeks back, we reported you that Maruti would introduce a diesel variant of the Alto 800 by the end of 2015 in India. Just so you know, Maruti recently introduced its first self-made diesel engine in Celerio, and now the same 793cc twin-cylinder motor is expected to be offered with the Alto 800. This engine, with Celerio, delivers a maximum power of 47bhp and peak torque of 125Nm, while returning an impeccable fuel economy of 27.62kmpl. However, mileage figures might touch the 30kmpl mark with the Alto 800 due to its lightweight structure as compared to Celerio. Besides Alto 800 diesel, Maruti would also launch the Ciaz SVHS hybrid and Ertiga facelift this year in India.
