Maruti Suzuki has launched the BS VI compliant Alto CNG at a starting price of Rs 4.11 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. The company had launched the BS VI compliant petrol variants in April this year in a price range of Rs 2.93-3.71 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi). The CNG kit is available in the mid-spec in two variants: LXi and LXi (O). Maruti Alto. being the country's best-seller for several years, rivals the likes of Renault Kwid, Datsun redi-GO and Hyundai Eon in the Indian market.
Speaking of the features, the Alto CNG gets power steering, air conditioning, front power windows, silver interior accents, retractable rear seatbelts and rear child locks, remote boot and fuel lid opener as standard. Also, as far as safety is concerned, LXI (O) variant boasts of passenger side airbag which is not available on the LXi grade. The CNG variants are approximately Rs 60,000 more expensive than the petrol variants of the hatchback. Recently, Maruti has been on a mission to upgrade its existing vehicle line-up to BS VI, starting from the Baleno to the recently launched Swift and Wagon R. For those asking, Union Government of India has set the deadline for the introduction of BS VI vehicle from April 1, 2020.
Mechanically, Maruti Alto is powered by the 796cc 3-cylinder F8D (BS IV) engine which generates top power of 47bhp and peak torque of 69Nm. However, the power and torque figures drop to 40bhp and 60Nm for the CNG variants. The company hasn't revelaed the power and torque output for the BS VI model yet, but it will certainly be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
