Maruti would shut down the production at its manufacturing facilities in Manesar and Gurgaon due to the regular bi-annual maintenance. The plant closure would take place from June 6-11, 2016. It has been preponed from June 27 - July 2, 2016 with the cooperation of all employees. Just so you know, production resumed at the country's largest automaker's Gurgaon plant from the second half of June 1, 2016 after suspension of two days due to a tragic a fire incident that happened at Subros Limited.
"This will enable the closure period to be utilized for arranging supply of components, both from M/s Subros Limited as well as from other sources, and result in higher production volumes after the closure," said the company in an official statement. Coming to the fire accident at Subros Limited, it led Maruti to shut down production for two days and face a heavy loss of 10,000 vehicles. For those asking, Subros Limited is Maruti's biggest supplier of air conditioning systems. Recently, in February 2016 as well, the company had to stall production at Gurgaon facility due to Jat agitation, which turned violent and eerie. It subsequently resulted in higher waiting periods of Maruti vehicles.
Now, with production being closed for 6 consecutive days from June 6-11, 2016, it would further accentuate the waiting period of Maruti vehicles. The Vitara Brezza micro-SUV would be affected the most by this suspension as it already commands a waiting period of 8-9 months with over 70,000 bookings under its belt. The company had set an annual production target of 1 Lakh units for the Vitara Brezza, and going by this closure, the waiting period would further rise. In addition, the buyers would also have to wait a bit longer for the Baleno hatch as it too would be affected due to the closure of Maruti's both production facilities.
