Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the Baleno premium hatchback at an introductory price of Rs. 4.99 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. Maruti Baleno, being an all-new premium hatch, would compete against the Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. It is presented in four trim levels - Sigma, Delta, Alpha and Zeta - in both petrol and diesel guises. The Baleno hatch is the second vehicle after the S-Cross to be retailed through Maruti's premium NEXA outlets. Maruti Baleno comes with best-in-class mileage figures and an automatic variant as well.
Being built on a brand new Suzuki platform, the Baleno is the first car in India to get Apple CarPlay infotainment system. For those wondering, Apple CarPlay offers the best-in-car experience for Iphone users and lets the driver control all the multimedia functions via voice commands. It is the first product to be manufactured in India, while being exported to over 100 countries worldwide. The interior cabin of Baleno is finished in an all-black theme. The Baleno hatchback has a boot capacity of 339-litres, while the ground clearance is 170mm. With a wheelbase of 2520mm, the hatch offers ample legroom for the rear occupants. The bookings for the hatch started on October 13, 2015 across the nation at Rs. 11,000. It is available in seven vibrant colors: Ray Blue, Fire Red, Autumn Orange, Premium Urban Blue, Pearl Arctic White, Metallic Premium Silver, and Granite Gray.
The premium hatch comes loaded with several exquisite features like Projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, LED tail-lamp cluster, 16-inch alloy wheels, touch-screen audio system, multi information speedometer with 4.2-inch color TFT display, Start/Stop button, Reverse parking camera, Steering mounted audio controls, Height adjustable driver's seat, 60:40 split rear seat, Leather wrapped steering wheel, etc. to mention a few. Maruti Baleno is presented in both petrol and diesel guises. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.2L, 4-cylinder petrol engine which generates maximum power of 83bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 115Nm at 4000rpm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT automatic gearbox. It delivers a fuel economy of 21.4kmpl (ARAI Specified). Coming to the diesel variants, they derive their power from the company's tried and trusted, Fiat-sourced, 1.3L, 4-cylinder Multi-jet engine. It develops a maximum power of 74bhp at 4000rpm and peak torque of 190Nm at 2000rpm. It is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission, while it returns a staggering mileage of 27.39kmpl (ARAI Specified) - yet another best-in-segment feature.
