Maruti Suzuki has started accepting orders for the Baleno RS at an initial payment of Rs 11,000/- in the country. The high-performance model would be launched on March 3, 2017 in a single variant. The performance-oriented would be sold via the NEXA premium chain of dealerships, while it can also be booked via dialing 1800 200 6392 (toll free). The Baleno RS had its first public appearance in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in February and it would debut the 1.0L BOOSTERJET direct injection turbocharged petrol engine in the country.
The company has announced that Maruti Baleno RS would boast of sporty front and rear bumpers and grille coupled with front, rear and side under body spoilers, while riding on black-colored sporty alloy wheels. It would also feature SmartPlay Infotainment system, while being complied with future safety norms including pedestrian safety, side impact and frontal offset impact. The hatchback would come loaded with a plethora of advance safety features such as ISOFIX child-seat restrain anchorages, dual front airbags, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, Front and rear disc brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and driver seat belt reminder buzzer with lamp and rear parking sensors with camera.
Speaking of the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine, it develops maximum power of 113bhp and peak torque of 150Nm with the several global models. However, for the India-spec model, it has been detuned to get power output of 100bhp at 5500rpm, while the torque is similar to the international models. The engine would be coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while it is also speculated that a 6-speed automatic gearbox could be introduced at a later stage. The hatch would have wheelbase of 2520mm. The ground clearance and boot space stand at 170mm and 339 litres, respectively. The Baleno RS could be priced around Rs. 9-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
