Maruti Suzuki has started teasing the Indian people with the Baleno RS, which is scheduled to be launched on March 3, 2017 in the country. The company recently shared an image at all its social media platforms of the Boosterjet petrol engine, henceby confirming that the hatch would indeed debut the much-anticipated engine in the Indian market. Being based on the range-topping Alpha trim of regular Baleno hatchback, the high-performance Baleno RS would be sold via the NEXA premium dealerships in the country.
The Baleno RS made its first public appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo in February in Greater Noida. The production-ready model of the hatchback at the Auto Expo was almost identical to prototype spotted in the country a couple of days back. Though, it differs from the standard variants of Baleno as it comes with a revamped set of bumpers, newly designed alloy wheels and unqiue mesh grille. Besides all of this, it would get dual projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) as standard feature. Other features include Electrically adjustable and folding wing mirrors with indicators, SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay, Reverse camera and parking sensors and Dual front airbags and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).
Unlike the regular variants of Baleno, the performance-based hatch would come equipped with disc brake in all the four wheels. Under the hood, it would have the 1.0L 3-cylinder turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine, which has been detuned in order to suit the India-spec model. It would develop maximum power of 100bhp and peak torque of 150Nm. Though, this engine generates 113bhp of top power in several international models. It would be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard, while speculations of introducing a 6-speed automatic gearbox at a later stage are also rife. The 1.0L Boosterjet engine is the first turbocharged petrol engine to be introduced by Maruti in the Indian market.
