  • Maruti Baleno to get a 1.2-litre DualJet engine.
  • This unit will be introduced on Baleno's Delta and Zeta variants.
  • The new unit betters in terms of efficiency compared to K12B engine.
  • Maruti could roll out the new engine sometime next month.
  • The 1.2L DualJet engine is likely to be offered with Swift and Dzire at a later stage.

Maruti Suzuki will add a new 1.2-litre DualJet engine to the Baleno hatchback. This engine will be used in other Maruti cars in future, however, Baleno would be the first model from the line-up to receive the new engine. Internally known as K12C, the 1.2-litre DualJet engine made its global debut in 2015 on the previous-generation Swift sold in the international markets. This unit will be BS VI ready and will be more fuel efficient as compared to the K12B engine.

It gets a host of upgrades opposed to K12B engine. That said, the new K12C gets two fuel injectors instead of one as seen in K12B. It implies the 16-valve engine gets one injector for all eight intake ports, unlike the K12B which features one injector for two intake ports of every cylinder. This allows placing the injector close to the back of the intake valve which improves atomization and efficiency.

In addition to the above change, expect the new DualJet K12C engine to get redesigned intake ports, piston crowns and combustion chambers, a new exhaust gas recirculation system, Smart Hybrid start-stop system and oil cooling jets for the underside of the pistons. Expect the new unit to get the single battery Hybrid system instead of the dual-battery unit which is seen in Ciaz 1.5 petrol.

The new unit is expected to be offered with the Delta and Zeta variants in the Baleno range. In terms of output, it is estimated to make slightly more power than its predecessor at 88 bhp and 120Nm. Maruti Suzuki India could roll out the new engine on Delta and Zeta variants of Baleno sometime next month, while other trims will also receive it at a later stage. The new engine will come paired to the conventional five-speed manual unit. Maruti could add the new engine to its flagship models, Swift and Dzire as well.
