Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has reached yet another milestone as over 100,000 units of its Celerio hatchback have been sold. Being launched at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, it was the first vehicle in the country to come with Auto Gear Shift Technology. Maruti also introduced the diesel avatar of Celerio last month with its first-ever self-developed 800cc twin-cylinder diesel engine.
Celebrating the landmark, Mr. RS Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “We thank customers for their support to brand Celerio. Celerio is the first car in India to introduce the acclaimed Auto Gear Shift technology and almost one third of the sales are of the Auto Gear Shift variants. Customers appreciated the convenience of automatic gear shifting with no loss in fuel efficiency on Celerio and within a year of its launch Maruti Suzuki’s share in the lower hatchback has shot up to 71% from 61%.” Celerio is the only car to be available in petrol, CNG and diesel fuel options and offer two transmission options (Manual and Auto Gear Shift).
Maruti Celerio petrol variants come loaded with a 998cc K-Next engine with Drive-by-Wire technology, which generates a maximum power of 67bhp and 90Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the diesel variants are powered by a 800cc engine which develops a top power of 47bhp and highest torque of 125Nm. Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel is India's most fuel efficient car with a mileage of 27.62kmpl.
