Maruti Suzuki seems to be on a vehicle launching spree as it has already launched two all-new cars in the form of Celerio and Ciaz and two facelifts versions in form of Swift and Alto K10. And, now a set of new images has surfaced online which showcases the Celerio in its diesel avatar. The folks at Gaadiwaadi have clicked these spy-shots and they further reveal that Celerio diesel would be launched in the country by April 2015.
Looking at the spy-image, the hatch boasts a DDiS badge on the fender which puts a stamp of confirmation on the authenticity of its being a diesel mule. Maruti has developed an all-new 800cc diesel motor which will make its debut with this hatchback. It will be the company's first self-owned diesel motor as till date it has been sourcing the same from Fiat in the form of 1.3L Multi-jet which comes with all its diesel cars. Reportedly, it would be a 0.8L, twin-cylinder mill which will generate a maximum power output of around 50 bhp. Due to its light weight and less power, it would be highly fuel efficient as it could deliver a mileage around 30kmpl, thus capturing the prestigious title of India's most fuel efficient car from the Ciaz sedan which delivers 26.1 kmpl.
The rumor mills are also abuzz that Celerio diesel will be offered with an AMT gearbox, but it seems that the company would wheel out the hatch with its conventional 5-speed manual transmission. However, Maruti might present an optional AMT variant later on at a higher cost. Quite similar to the petrol unit, the Celerio diesel when offered with AMT gearbox would become the most fuel efficient automatic diesel car of the country. Currently, Tata Zest holds this title as it is the only car in diesel guise that comes with AMT unit. There would be no cosmetic changes in the diesel variant and the interiors as well as the exterior design would be carried over from the petrol variant.
The diesel version of the Celerio is expected to be launched in a price bracket of Rs. 4.5-5.5 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
