Maruti Suzuki will be launching the Celerio Diesel on 3rd June, 2015 as confirmed by the India's largest automobile manufacturer. The Celerio Diesel is special in many ways for the Indo-Sino collaboration. The Celerio Diesel will be the first car from the company to get an indigenously built diesel engine, a two cylinder unit that displaces 793cc.
Also, the engine will be the most fuel efficient car in India, which official ARAI-rated mileage figure of 27.62 kmpl. The diesel unit will also be the lightest engine weighing only around 89 kg. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio Diesel will also be one of the most budget-friendly diesel cars on offer in India competing against the Hyundai Grand i10 and Chevrolet Beat.
These features are enough to create a buzz among the buyers, and add to the fact that it comes from the house of Maruti Suzuki, it can do real good business for the company. Speculations are that the Celerio diesel will be priced somewhat around Rs 80000 higher than the corresponding petrol models and will come in four trims - LDi, VDi, ZDi, and ZDi (O).
The 793 cc two-cylinder unit is rated at 47 bhp at 3500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. The power will be sent to the front wheels via a new 5-speed manual gearbox that comes with a hydraulic clutch ensuring minimal mechanical losses. ABS, EBD and dual front airbags will be on offer on the top-end variant only.
