Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the diesel version of its much anticipated Celerio hatchback in the first week of June. The diesel avatar of Maruti Celerio has been spotted several times undisguised at company's stockyard in Manesar. Just so you know, the Celerio diesel would mark the debut of Maruti's first self-made diesel engine. The newly-developed 793cc twin cylinder diesel engine would be extremely high on fuel efficiency, while maintaining good power and torque.
Shedding light on this new engine from Maruti, it would be generating a maximum power of 47bhp at 3500rpm, while delivering a peak torque performance of 125Nm at 2000rpm. It would be linked to a 5-speed manual transmission; an AMT unit might also be in reckoning. Although, its quite less than two of its rivals Chevrolet Beat & Hyundai Grand i10. Both of the aforementioned hatches have a larger 3-cylinder diesel motor which generates top torque of 150Nm and 160Nm, respectively. However, Celerio diesel would be miles ahead of both of its foes in terms of mileage, as it is being reported by AutoCar India that it would return a class-leading 27.62kmpl.
The spied cars at Maruti's stockyard were wearing a DDiS125 badge which further strengthen the belief that it's maximum torque would be around 125Nm. Also, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel has a chance to dethrone the Tata Zest and become the country's cheapest automatic car, if offered with AMT gearbox. Various reports indicate that Maruti is about to commence the dealer dispatch of the Celerio diesel and most probably by June 1, 2015, one can pre-book the car.
