Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has released the first look teaser of their upcoming hatchback Celerio. The Celerio is a replacement to the on-going A-Star in the Indian market and most likely to make its debut at the upcoming Auto Expo in February.
According to MSI, the Celerio will feature a first-of-its-kind mechanism called the 'EZ Drive'. In this system, car's engine is mated to an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) from Magneti Marelli is an electro-hydraulic mechanism for automating the manual transmission. The device allows the driver to change gears without using the clutch, either sequentially or fully automatically.
AMT is expected to be more fuel efficient upto five percent than the conventional manual transmission. Even the production cost of AMT is consequently lower as compared to the traditional automatic transmissions.
The Celerio will carry the same 1.0-liter K-Series petrol motor that powers the Alto K10 which outputs 68 PS of max power and peak torque of 90 Nm. And it will the first Indian car to feature an Automated Manual Transmission.
