Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the Ciaz diesel hybrid in the country. It has been learnt that Maruti Ciaz hybrid is christened as Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Maruti Suzuki) and it is expected to be launched by the end of this month. Even, it has been reported that Maruti Ciaz SHVS would replace the diesel version of the sedan and the hybrid sedan has already been spotted at company dealerships.
The Ciaz SHVS is likely to come with a an idling start/stop system, a larger battery and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The Integrated Starter Generator would be combined with a brake energy recuperation system, which would convert the kinetic energy of the wheels into current needed for charging the battery. There wouldn't be no cosmetic changes in the Ciaz hybrid as compared to the current model. The Ciaz hyrbid is expected to deliver mileage close to 30kmpl, while the current model returns 26.2kmpl. Under the hood, there would be the same 1.3L Multi-jet diesel motor, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Although, no spy-shots of interior cabin have surfaced online, but it is reported to be similar to the current model. Just so you know, the inclusion of idling start/stop system would benefit the buyers by switching off the engine when the car is not in motion. Also, it would automatically switch on the engine, when the clutch is pressed. Moreover, the engine would restart only if the driver is wearing seatbelt, and door and bonnet are closed. Maruti Ciaz SHVS would be the only vehicle in its segment to offer hybrid technology as none of its competitors - Honda City, Hyundai Verna 4S, Ford Fiesta, and Volkswagen Vento - have such a variant.
