We just informed our readers about Maruti's tentative plans to launch the Ciaz in just a couple of months time. Now, a Chinese website has just posted a few pictures of what seems to be a production model of the Suzuki Alivio. That is what the Ciaz will be called in China.
The car unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show last month was quite toned down from the Ciaz concept showcased at the Auto Expo in India. The display car in China had different front and rear bumpers, rear-view mirrors, head and tail lamps, door handles, and wheels as compared to the Ciaz concept. It certainly appeared to be a lot closer to the production version.
The spy pics of the White car here show that the car shown at the motor show in China was indeed a near-production model. The snout sports a similar chrome grille flanked by headlights that house projector units like those in the show car. We hope that the Indian car gets a different grille as this one looks too, er, Chinese. However, we really liked the exhaust treatment which stays true to the Ciaz concept and we hope that it makes it on the Indian car as well. Again, like the concept, the boot retains an integrated spoiler and the overall form, thankfully, is not too different from the concept Ciaz.
Until now, Maruti Suzuki has not been able to taste much success with its premium offerings like the Kizashi or the Vitara. If we go further back, the Baleno too had bowed down to the City primarily because of pricing issues more than anything else. So, as we have said earlier, it will all boil down to how Maruti chooses to price its latest offering. If priced right, Honda and Hyundai will finally have something to think about.
