Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) would launch the Ciaz SHVS diesel on September 1, 2015 in the country. Just so you know, Maruti Ciaz SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Maruti Suzuki) uses mild-hybrid technology, which makes it more fuel efficient than the ongoing diesel models. The 1.3L Multi-jet diesel engine is carried over from the current model, but with addition of an integrated starter generator and start-stop technology. It is believed that the company could replace the current diesel variants with the new Ciaz SHVS variants.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz SHVS would be the first C segment sedan in the country to feature hybrid technology. In addition, it is being learnt that Maruti would also update the safety features of the sedan and would Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and driver side airbag as standard across the entire variant line-up. For those wondering, the SVHS technology would help Ciaz diesel to deliver a mileage in excess of 28kmpl, while the current mileage stands at 26.2kmpl. There wouldn't be any cosmetic changes in the sedan, while the interior cabin would also be retained from the current model.
Under the hood, there would be the same 1.3L Multi-jet diesel engine but, as mentioned before, with an integrated starter generator and start-stop technology. The start-stop technology would be immensely helpful to the driver in thick traffic as it would automatically switch off the engine when the car is not in motion, while pressing the clutch would start the car instantly. Moreover, if the driver isn't wearing seatbelt and door or bonnet are open, then the engine won't restart. The diesel engine in new Ciaz SHVS hybrid would be offered with the same 5-speed manual transmission.
