Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has finally launched the Ciaz SHVS hybrid at an introductory price of Rs. 8.23 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. Being India's first Smart Hybrid diesel sedan, the Ciaz SHVS comes loaded with Idle Engine Start/Stop, Power Assist and Brake Energy Regeneration. Just so you know, Maruti Ciaz Smart Hybrid participates in Indian Government's FAME initiative and a buyer would get a benefit of Rs. 13,000 under this scheme. For those asking, standard Ciaz diesel variants would be replaced by the Ciaz Smart Hybrid.
Maruti Ciaz's SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology uses an integrated starter generator (ISG) and an advance high capacity battery. This system supplements engine's power, making it more efficient than the conventional setup. Hence, the energy saved while decelerating/braking, which is otherwise lost, is stored in the advance high capacity battery and assists suring acceleration. Hence, it results into a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 28.09kmpl (ARAI Certified). For those wondering, the Idle Start/Stop function on the Ciaz hybrid turns off the engine automatically when the vehicle is in idle state and restarts it as soon as the clutch is pressed. Maruti has also introduced Gear Shift Indicator in the Ciaz hybrid, which prompts the driver to effectively change the gears, resulting in enhanced mileage.
Under the hood, the Ciaz SHVS comes with the same 1.3L DDiS 200 diesel motor, which generates a maximum power of 89bhp at 4000rpm and peak torque of 200Nm at 1750rpm. The engine is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission, which propels it to do a 0-100kmph in just 13.3 seconds. Having a boot space of 510 litres, Maruti Ciaz Hybrid is available in seven paint schemes: Pearl Snow White, Metallic Silky silver, Pearl Midnight Black, Pearl Metallic Dignity Brown, Metallic Glistening Gray, Metallic Clear Beige, and Pearl Sangria Red. As for safety, there are dual front airbags, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.
On the occasion of the launch, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, MSIL, said, "Through Ciaz Smart Hybrid, we are deploying technology to benefit the customer and the environment, both at the same time. Brand Ciaz has been one of the major success stories for Maruti Suzuki in the past one year. It has won nearly 60,000 customers in India and overseas and established itself as a leading brand in the premium sedan segment. Ciaz Smart Hybrid will further strengthen its position. Ciaz Smart Hybrid is special also, because it helps us participate in India's vision of promoting hybrid and electric vehicles. By offering support through the FAME program, the Government has ensured that hybrid technology, while being clean and customer friendly, also becomes more attractive and accessible. "
