Maruti Concept Future S has made its world premiere at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Being designed completely in-house, the new concept previews a compact SUV which would be launched in early 2019. The Future S Concept introduces an all-new design language for the company in the compact SUV segment. It would be positioned below the Vitara Brezza in Maruti's portfolio. The Concept Future S would take on the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and the recently unveiled Ford Freestyle in the Indian market.
Speaking of Maruti Future S Concept, it flaunts an upright stance, higher seating and ample ground clearance. It is nearly 200mm shorter in length than the Vitara Brezza, the company's entry-level offering in the SUV segment. Underpinning the Heartect light-weight architecture like the Baleno and all-new Swift, it features a high bonnet line and near-vertical A-pillars. The concept model boasts of LED headlamps, while the front grille houses the Suzuki emblem in the centre. The interior cabin is quite advanced and futuristic with several new premium features such as automatic A/C, steering mounted audio and telephonic controls and touchscreen infotainment system.
Mechanically, Maruti Concept Future S would come in both petrol and diesel fuel trims when it enters production in 2019. There are speculations that the country's largest automaker might offer an electric variant as well. The petrol variants could be powered by the 1.2L engine while the diesel variants might debut the company's in-house developed 1.5L engine. Maruti has already announced that it plans to introduce the self-developed 1.5L diesel engine in new vehicles from 2019 in place of Fiat-sourced 1.3L DDiS engine. The compact SUV would get manual transmission as standard while possibilities of AMT gearbox cannot be ignored altogether. Meanwhile, in other news, all-new Maruti Swift would be launched tomorrow in the country.
Unveiling ConceptFutureS, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Compact is the natural choice of India’s car customers. Compact needs a fresh design language, one that is bold, confident and dynamic. Our designers have created this brand new design, aggressive on the outside, and bold and inviting interiors. Nothing like this has ever been attempted before on a vehicle this size. Concept FutureS will define the next generation of design for compact vehicles in India”.
