Maruti Suzuki Ignis is the most anticipated model for the consumers and it was rumoured that the car will make its launch in the festive season. But, the launch has been delayed till next year, preferably during the period - January - March 2017. It was confirmed by Mr RS Kalsi, Maruti's Executive Director of Marketing and Sales.
Maruti Ignis made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in a near production form and has been spied doing test rounds on the Delhi roads as well. The homegrown automajor planned to launch the model by the end of this year, but with the increasing demand of its premium hatchback Baleno and the compact SUV Vitara Brezza forced the brand to focus over the manufacturing capacity. More interestingly, the Ignis will be a replacement to the Maruti Ritz, where it is being rumoured that the production of the Ritz has already been slowed down.
Dimensionally, the crossover Ignis measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,660 mm wide and 1,595mm tall. It comes with 2,435mm long wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 180mm. Maruti Suzuki Ignis is expected to get high-end Harman Kardon audio system with Bluetooth/USB connectivity, digital MID and for safety, features such as airbags, ABS with EBD and hill descent control.
Under the hood, the Ignis crossover will be power packed with a 1.2-litre VTVT petrol unit same as shared with the swift that makes 85 bhp of power with 115 Nm of peak torque and a 1.3-litre MultiJet oil burner that is good to develop 74 bhp and a peak torque of 190 Nm. It is also being said that Maruti will be considering 1.0 BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) box.
The car is expected to hit Indian market at a price tag, ranging between Rs 5 lakh - Rs 8 Lakh and will go on sale through Nexa dealerships. It will be pitted against Toyota Etios Liva Cross and Mahindra KUV100.
