Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that it will start offering dual airbags and ABS as an option in all variants of Swift and DZire. The new Celerio was the first model to be offered with ABS and dual airbags as an option across all the variants available. Swift has been one of the bestselling cars for the company and has been going strong since a decade. The DZire on the other hand was launched in the year 2008 and has been the best-selling sub-four meter sedan for last three years.
Both cars have contributed towards Maruti Suzuki’s market share. In the 2014-15 financial year, Swift and DZire maintained an average sale of over 17,000 units each per month.
Mr. R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, MSIL, was present at the event and said “Swift and DZire are two of the most popular cars in India. Both have played an instrumental role in shaping the Indian automobile industry. The cars are known for contemporary styling, superior comfort, convenience features and performance. By offering driver and co-driver airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) across all variants of Swift and DZire, we want to further strengthen their popularity among customers.”
The availability of optional ABS and airbags is a great move considering that it lets customer choose these safety options with base variant too. Indian government may make crash tests like front impact, side impact and off-set frontal impact mandatory for all cars from the month of October 2017. All carmakers in the country will need to offer necessary safety features like airbags, ABS in addition to proving the worthiness of car’s structural integrity through tests.
