Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India's largest automaker, has announced that it would recall 33,098 Altos in the country over a faulty right hand door latch assembly. Out of the recalled 33,098 units, 19,780 units belong to Alto 800, while the remaining 13,318 units belong to Alto K10. The recalled Altos are manufactured between December 8, 2014 and February 18, 2015.
"From customer perspective, there is no concern if the right hand side door (front and rear) is completely latched. If however, the door is half-latched then the door may open if pressure is applied from inside. Although it is a rare condition, but in view of customer safety, the Company is undertaking replacement of the door latch assembly, proactively.," the company said in a statement. Maruti said that problem was detected on the basis of internal quality checks undertaken by the company. Maruti dealer, across the nation, would contact the car owners and echnicians will carry out the necessary replacement free of cost.
Buyers can also check whether their Alto 800 or Alto K10, purchased 8th December 2014 onwards in India, falls under the recall policy or not by visiting company's website www.marutisuzuki.com. Customers need to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen to check this. For your information, the chassis number is given on the vehicle ID plate, and can also be seen on the vehicle invoice or registration documents.
