Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has become the only car manufacturer in India to roll out a record 15 million vehicles. The 15 millionth car, a Swift DZire VDi with Chassis No. MA3FJEB1S00740865 was rolled out from the Company’s Manesar facility. The first car, a Maruti 800, had rolled out from the Gurgaon facility in December 1983. The Company has achieved this milestone in 31 years and 5 months.
Dedicating the milestone to the Company’s customers, partners and employees, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, Executive Director, Production, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Maruti Suzuki’s journey has been one of Kaizen and continuous improvement. Our people on the shop floor make enormous contribution so that we can offer more and better to our customers, and fulfil their needs and aspirations." The key contributors in company's journey to accomplish this milestone were Alto (K10 included), Maruti 800, Omni, Wagon R, Swift and Swift DZire. The country's largest automaker's next medium term goal is to clock sales of 2 million vehicles per annum by 2020.
The company is expanding its product portfolio, foraying into new segments, strengthening the sales and service network and enhancing capabilities across the value chain. Gandhi added: “Of course, we want to get to 20 million in good time, by making quality products with the help of capable and motivated people”. In March 2011, Maruti achieved the feat of producing 10 million vehicles in India and it took around 4 years to manufacture the 15 millionth vehicle.
