Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is all set for its India launch next month in July 2015. The company dealers have started taking bookings for the S-Cross crossover at a token payment of Rs. 25,000. Maruti S-Cross's India-spec model was unveiled at the recently concluded IIFA Awards Show in Malaysia and it differs from its European sibling in terms of exterior styling and interior features. The production of the S-Cross has already started at company's Gurgaon plant.
Talking about the exterior styling of Maruti S-Cross, it would flaunt dual slat chrome grille, fog lamps with chrome in-housings, and projector headlamps with daytime running lights. In addition, there would be several sporty elements such as full body plastic cladding, alloy wheels, roof rails, and wrap-around tail lamps to make it more desirable. The interiors would be done in an all-black shade with premium features like keyless entry, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control and dual-zone climate control. It would be Maruti's first vehicle in compact SUV segment and would be up against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta.
Maruti S-Cross would be launched in both petrol and diesel fuel trims. The petrol variants would be powered by the same 1.4L, 4-cylinder engine which is also on offer with the Ciaz mid-sized sedan and Ertiga MPV. The surpise comes in diesel guise, as the Maruti S-Cross is all set to become India's first vehicle to come with Fiat's 1.6L, 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine would be offered with the top-of-the-range variants only and would generate 118bhp of maximum power with 320Nm of peak torque. The base and the mid variants of the crossover would be available with Fiat's 1.3L, 4-cylinder engine, which does duties to Maruti's every diesel vehicle in the country. It would deliver 89bhp of top power and 200Nm of highest torque. It is not confirmed yet whether a 4X4 variant would be offered or not alongside an automatic variant.
