Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has finally launched the much-awaited S-Cross premium crossover at an introductory price of Rs. 8.34 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, New Delhi) in the country. The Maruti S-Cross is available in diesel fuel trim with 2 engine options: DDiS 200 & DDiS 320. For those concerned, S-Cross would be the first model to be retailed exclusively through NEXA range of premium dealerships. The bookings for the crossover have already begun at a token amount of Rs. 11,000.
Being built on a brand new platform, Maruti S-Cross flaunts traditional dual-slat Suzuki front grille with the 'S' emblem and HID projector headlamps. In addition, several elements in form of side body side cladding, skid plate garnishes at the front and rear, raised bonnet, and roof rails have been incorporated to accentuate the sportiness of the vehicle. As for interior features, the S-Cross boasts of quite a few high-end features such as cruise control, rain sensing auto wipers, reverse parking camera, rear seat recliner, engine push start/stop button, smart play infotainment system, audio and bluetooth controls mounted steering wheel, etc. Just so you know, the company has invested Rs. 600 Crores in the development of S-Cross.
Coming to the safety features, Maruti S-Cross would offer dual front airbags as standard safety features across the entire variant lineup. In addition, there are all wheel disc brakes with ABS and front seat pre-tensioner and force limiters to minimize the impact. The Maruti S-Cross is introduced in 5 exterior paint schemes: Pearl Arctic White, Urban Blue, Caffeine Brown, Premium Silver, and Granite Grey. Dedicating S-Cross to customers, Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki said, " There is a segment of customers in India who want power and performance in their vehicle, but also the comfort and refinement of a sedan. It is in that spirit today we are launching S-Cross."
Mechanically, the S-Cross is presented with two Fiat-sourced diesel motors: a 1.3L Multi-jet engine and a 1.6L, 4-cylinder engine. The former would develop a maximum power of 89bhp at 4000rpm, while the latter would belt out 118bhp at 3750rpm. The smaller diesel engine of 1248cc has a peak torque performance of 200Nm at 1750rpm, while being coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It delivers an ARAI Certified mileage of 23.65kmpl, while touching 100kmph barrier from standstill in 13.2 seconds. Coming to the heavier and more powerful 1598cc motor, it generates a highest torque of 320Nm at 1750rpm, while linked to a 6-speed manual transmission.
