Maruti Suzuki has registered a record number of sales in the financial year 2017-18. The Indo-Japanese auto manufacturer retailed a total of 17,79,574 units in last financial year marking a year-on-year growth of 13.4%. The automaker sold a total of 16,43,467 units in the domestic market which marked the brand’s highest-ever domestic sales number. This number marked a sales hike of 13.8% compared to the last fiscal when the company retailed 14,43,641 units in the domestic market. Clearly, Maruti Suzuki has seen a significant growth in the Indian market in last fiscal.
In March 2018 alone, the brand sold 1,47,170 units which was 15.3% higher compared to the number it posted in March 2017. Such an impressive success is attributed to the models like Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Dzire, new Swift, Ignis etc. Clearly, the new crop of models from the brand are playing a key role in the company’s growth. The Maruti Suzuki Alto and Wagon R too have played a crucial role in Maruti’s growth story in FY2018. Together, these two models registered 4,27,183 units contributing 3.2% in the total sales volume.
While the current generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been ruling the compact sedan market with impressive high demands, the new Swift has already racked up more than 1 lakh bookings in a very short span after its launch previously this year. The new Swift is expected to boost the brand’s sales in coming months as well.
Maruti already owns around 50% of the market share in the Indian car market and the brand is aiming to grow bigger in coming years. Apart from the conventional fuel powered models, Maruti is also focusing on becoming the leader in India’s electric vehicle segment that is likely to grow bigger in the next decade. Maruti has already announced that it will launch the first EV here in 2020.
