Maruti Alto's launch is in line with Union Government's vision of accentuating natural gas's share by 15 percent from the present's 6.2 percent by 2030. It will also help in reducing the oil import and dependency on other countries. Now, Maruti has the largest portfolio of CNG equipped vehicles in the country. Mechanically, BS 6 Maruti Alto S-CNG is powered by the same 796cc petrol engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit. The engine makes top power of 47bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 69Nm at 3500rpm with regular petrol variants.
The company has retailed more than 1 lakh units of BS 6 compliant Alto since its launch last year in India. In addition, Maruti also introduced a new range-topping variant Vxi+ in December 2019 with the BS 6 version of the hatchback. Maruti Alto will be at loggerheads with Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO in the Indian market. In addition, the company had also launched the BS 6 Ciaz in a price range of Rs 8.31-11.98 Lakhs (Ex. showroom, Delhi) in the Indian market a couple of days back. The prices of BS 6 variants have been hiked between approx. Rs 11,000-22,000 as compared to the BS 4 variants.
Maruti Suzuki had debuted a new BS6 Ciaz S variant which is based on the flagship Alpha grade, albeit with an extra body kit. The body kit comprises of a black-colored rear spoiler mounted on the boot while 16-inch gloss black alloy wheels are also a part of this kit. While the other variants of the sedan get dual-tone beige and black upholstery, the BS6 Maruti Ciaz S flaunts an all-black cabin with same bells and whistles as the Alpha grade. The company has phased out the diesel variants while only upgrading the 1.5L petrol engine with BS 6 emission norms.
