Maruti Suzuki Alto has retained the crown of being the bestselling car of the country. What’s making the car more special, the Alto is currently the bestselling model of India for 14th consecutive years. This budget hatchback has recorded 258,539 units in last financial year, marking 7% growth compared to previous fiscal when it registered 241,635 units.
Among the top 10 bestselling cars of last financial year, seven are from the house of Maruti Suzuki, while the rest are Hyundai models. Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Vitara Brezza have seen impressive growth in last fiscal. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno premium hatchback has recorded a massive 57.68% growth with 190,480 units compared to 120,804 units in the FY2017.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been playing key role behind the brand’s growth in Indian market and this compact SUV has helped the automaker to become the top brand in the UV segment. The upmarket looking compact SUV has registered 148,372 units in last fiscal compared to 108,640 units marking a growth of 36.57%.
The third generation Dzire compact sedan too has seen pretty good response from the buyers. This car has registered 240,133 units in last fiscal compared to 199,878 units in FY17. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire recorded 20.14% YoY growth. While these cars have been performing very well in terms of sales, the popular hatchbacks like wagon R and Celerio have seen decline in their retail numbers. Hyundai Creta has seen 10.56% growth with 107,136 units sold in last financial year.
