In an earlier story, we talked about Maruti Suzuki India's upcoming cars to debut at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo. Among several products to be unveiled at the event, Maruti Suzuki A-Star's replacement is the one everybody is eyeing at, since it will be a yet another affordable hatchback from the giant. Other products to be unveiled at the expo are a mid-size sedan and the compact SUV XA Alpha's production ready version.

Maruti Suzuki A Star which is there in the market for quite a long time now could not meet the company's expectations in terms of sales number. So, the company has been right now testing a A-Star replacement, which might also be offered with a diesel engine option.

According to a report published in Economic Times, MSI is gradually phasing out the A-Star to leave space for a new range of cars. The company has already discontinued its yet another low selling car Zen Estilo for the same reason. The A-Star failed to even bring the number equal to Maruti's oldest car M800 this year.

Since the A-Star replacement has already been caught testing several times, what we could perceive of those is a more spacious, taller and better looking vehicle. So being a better looker and dimensionally bigger than the existing A-Star, this new vehicle might give Chevrolet Beat, Nissan Micra Active and others a run for their money.

There are no exact details on the engine specifications of the car, but we expect it to retain the 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine, powering the existing A-Star. While the vehicle could also be introduced with a new diesel engine, on which Maruti Suzuki India is currently working.
