Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback, Baleno achieved a new milestone of clocking a sales mark of 5 lakh unit within a span of 38 months, which is a record time as claimed by the homegrown car manufacturer. Since its launch, the Baleno lured many buyers in the Indian car market with its unique Liquid Flow design along with the airy cabin it offers. The demand soared with the time that the buyers had to wait for around 5 month for the delivery of the car.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki, said, “Baleno has become a resounding success in the highly competitive premium hatchback segment. It is a testimony of our best in class technology and customer experience. Our engineers have ensured that Baleno offers superior ride and handling, class-leading performance and safety. With a staggering 20.6 % growth in first half of 2018-19, Baleno has been among the top selling cars in India, since 2016. We are grateful for our customers’ constant support that has made Baleno India’s most preferred premium hatchback.”
Maruti Suzuki Baleno made its launch in October 2015. Being a symbol of the Make-in-India mission, the Baleno is the first model to be exported from India to Japan. It is not just the domestic that has responded well for the model, but in the global market such as Europe, Australia, East Asia and Latin America, as well.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno pounces with the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the likes. Despite not have any design updates, the model still has an average sales of around 18,000 every month and also this is also the main reason that Maruti had to increase the production of the model by 34 per cent recently.
In terms of the features, the Baleno premium hatchback comes equipped with 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, LED daytime running lamps, LED taillamps, while for the safety, it gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and anti-theft security system, seatbelt pre-tensioners and force limiters for the driver and co-driver as standard features across the model range.
Mechanically, the car is offered in both petrol and diesel guise. The petrol variant gets a 1.2-litre engine that produces 83 bhp of maximum power and 115 Nm of torque and the diesel version is powered by a 1.3-litre unit that makes 74 bhp of power and 190 Nm of top torque. Transmission duty is carried by a 5-speed manual gearbox as a standard for both petrol and diesel variant, while a CVT automatic is offered on petrol version. Maruti also offers a performance enhanced version of the Baleno, the RS variant that gets power from a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that cranks out 101bhp with 105Nm and it comes paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.
