Maruti Suzuki is pacing up itself in terms of launches where we earlier reported that the company is planning to introduce its SHVS technology or the mild Hybrid system in other models. According to emerging reports, the company is planning to launch the Baleno RS, which is a performance pack version of the premium hatchback Baleno in early 2017.
The Baleno RS concept version was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and was expected to make its launch in the Indian market around the festive season. However, the company had to delay the launch in order to overcome the backlog for its compact SUV Vitara Brezza and the Baleno. Moreover, the company also scheduled the launch of the most anticipated compact crossover Ignis between January – March 2017, due to same reason.
The Baleno RS will wear Bi-xenon automatic headlamps with LED daytime running lights, side skirts, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, and will ride on new designed diamond cut alloy wheels. Inside, the model will could offered with 7-inch touchscreen SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, automatic climate, reverse camera and parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers. While for the safety, it will be offered with ABS and dual airbags.
Interesting part is under the skin of the Baleno RS, the model will be packed with a powerful 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine that will easily crank out 110 bhp of power with 170 Nm of peak torque and will make this much power output with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It is being rumoured that the automatic transmission option could also get paddle shifters.
Once launched, it will pounce with like of Fiat Abarth Punto and Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS will be sold through the company’s premium dealership channel, Nexa and will be priced higher than the current model.
