Just yesterday, we reported that Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is getting ready to roll out the CNG variant of the insanely, popular Celerio hatchback in the country. Today however, the model has been officially launched with a starting price of Rs 4.68 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi.)
Dubbed as the Celerio Green, the CNG factory-fitted kit is limited to the VXi variant of the hatchback. The CNG unit will work in tandem with the current 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine, which has been de-tuned to churn out 59PS of max power and 79Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-Speed manual transmission. The Indian automaker is known to use the i-GPI (Intelligent-Gas Port Injection) technology that injects the CNG gas into the combustion chamber of the engine when running on dual mode. The same patented technology will also be used in the Celerio Green.
Maruti Suzuki has also reportedly, made certain amendments to the Celerio’s suspension to counter the added weight of the CNG gas cylinder. The Indian automaker is claiming a fuel efficiency of 31.79 km/kg, while the running costs have been determined to be a low Rs 1.20 per kilometre.
With those numbers and the competitive sticker price, the Celerio hatchback has unarguably, become an even more value-for-money proposition in the Indian market.
