Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the keenly-awaited diesel avatar of Celerio hatchback at a sticker price of Rs. 4.65 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in the country. In the company's history of 60 years, it would be its first self-developed diesel powerplant. The Japanese automaker has launched the Maruti Celerio diesel in four trims - Ldi, Vdi, Zdi, and Zdi (O). Cosmetically, the hatch is identical to its petrol version.
Talking about the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the company claims that within 16 months of its launch in the Indian market, it has sold more than 95,000 units of the car and thus they went for a diesel version. The all-new aluminium diesel motor in Celerio hatch is badged as DDiS 125 and it marks the global debut of this highly-efficient engine. For those asking, till date the country's largest automaker has been using Fiat-sourced 1.3L Multi-jet engine in all its diesel cars such as Swift, Swift DZire and Ciaz. The company claims that the new diesel engine is the lightest in its segment as it weighs a mere 89 kgs.
The new 793cc twin-cylinder diesel motor churns out 47bhp of maximum power and 125Nm of peak torque, while delivering a jaw-dropping fuel economy of 27.62kmpl (ARAI Certified). Hence, Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel becomes India's most fuel efficient car by dethroning Ciaz from the numero-uno spot. The company further tell that the all-new diesel engine has 97% of local content and has been developed at a cost of Rs. 900 Crores.
