Maruti Suzuki will launch the much anticipated Celerio Diesel today. We will be reporting live from the event so stay tuned for all the live updates. The Celerio diesel comes from the house of the largest car manufacturer in the country and is touted as the most fuel efficient cars with an impressive mileage figure of 27.62 kmpl (ARAI Certified).
Powering Celerio diesel will be an indigenously built two-cylinder engine that displaces 793cc and produces 47bhp and 125 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and this is the first time Maruti Suzuki will use an in-house diesel engine. Maruti is traditionally being employing the popular 1.3-litre DDiS unit sourced from the Fiat over the years.
The Indo-Sino company has high hopes for the product and it is being launched in a very competitive segment. Once launched, the Celerio diesel will compete against the Hyundai Grand i10 diesel and Chevrolet Beat diesel. The Celerio diesel will be launched in four trims - Ldi, Vdi, Zdi and Zdi (O). The top end model will get ABS, Airbags, Steering mounted controls and many other features.
Maruti Celerio was the most budget oriented car in the country to get an AMT gearbox before Maruti adorned the AMT to Alto K10 and Tata to Nano. The car will most likely priced Rs 70000- 80000 more than the corresponding petrol variants.
