The interiors of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio recently got snapped by the good folks at Motorbeam.com. The spotted model is supposed to be a top-of-the-line variant that comes with a newly developed automated transmission, christened as EZ Drive. The front passenger airbag, double-din stereo system are prominent in the cabin though it lacks the automatic climate control. The cabin of the Celerio seems quite bright and lively, thanks to the beige color interiors. The dashboard design has a lot of similar cues to its elder sibling, Ritz and Swift.
The steering wheel is taken from the Swift while the speedometer and gearlever position looks similar to that of the Ritz. The rear seat wears dark upholstery but the leg space seems a bit cramped with no detachable headrests for the rear passengers. The overall design uplifts the cabin feel but dashboard looks a bit bulky and short of storage space.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio is successor of the company's futile A-Star. The Celerio will play rivalry with likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 in the Indian market. The model is likely to be powered by the company's tried and tested 1.0-litre, 4-cylinder 16 valve petrol engine that has been powering the WagonR and Alto K10.
The development of automated transmission might help the company to garner good sales in the market. The highlight of the newly developed transmission is that it provides the option of shifting gear manually without the input of clutch. The company expects the new gearbox to be a revolutionary development for the urban driving. The company has not revealed the specs or variant details of the Celerio, however the launch seems to happen at the 2014 AutoExpo India.
