Maruti Suzuki Celerio is a replacement to the out-going A-Star in the Indian market and will make its debut at the upcoming Auto Expo next month.
The Celerio will carry the same 1.0-liter K-Series petrol motor that powers the Alto K10 which outputs 68 PS of max power and peak torque of 90 Nm. The car features an all-new Automated Manual Transmission, which MSI is promoting with the name 'EZ Drive'.
The Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) a.k.a EZ Drive technology comes from the house of Italian component manufacturer- Magneti Marelli. It is an electro-hydraulic mechanism for automating the manual transmission, the device allows the driver to change gears without using the clutch, either sequentially or fully automatically. AMT delivers better fuel efficiency upto five percent than the conventional manual transmission. And Even the production cost of AMT is consequently lower as compared to the traditional automatic transmissions.
Spy shots depicts that this EZ Drive is more-or-less a a conventional manual gearbox with a customised mechanical and hydraulic unit which controls the clutch action instead of a foot pedal. The AMT removes the the need of depressing the clutch to play between the gears, thereby it helps a lot in reducing the fatigue levels of the driver in bumper-to-bumper driving conditions.
