R C Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India has been conferred with Padma Bhushan, which is the third highest civilian award, in the field of public affairs. Padma Awards - one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines/ fields of activities.
These awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March/ April every year. This year the President of India has approved conferment of the Padma Awards to 112 persons as per the list and Mr R C Bhargava is among 19 other renowned Indians to receive the coveted award this year.
The auto industry veteran has been with Maruti Suzuki since 1981 and before holding the position of chairman of the company in 2007, Mr. Bhargava held the office of CEO. It is an appreciation for the brand, as the Padma Bhushan award comes days before the world premiere of Maruti Suzukis’s first ever homemade product, the Maruti Vitara Brezza. And under his leadership, Maruti’s importance among Suzuki Motor Corporation’s subsidiaries has been going up steadily.
